Empire is featuring the solo exhibition of ‘Edgar Ortiz |Whispers Become Secrets’ on October 15, 2021 at noon. Edgar will be joining us and will be available to meet and discuss his works*.
Edgar’s work encompasses influences from his upbringing in New York. These inspirations are drawn from cultural touch points from the early ‘80s – grassroots rap, R&B, and jazz, merging with cinematic references that include sci-fi, cartoons, action, as well as Samurai Sunday films. Merging these key elements, his work transcends the originals, forming work created with a mixed medium of materials. As an artist, Edgar feels connected, in one form or another, to these aspects in each of his works. As his passions evolved, so did his commitment to his education in art – from his early beginnings at School of Visual Arts in New York, to continuing further at the Academy of Art in San Francisco. He has since then merged his afro-Caribbean culture as well as music in all his work.
